Cupping at Spa Serenity
At Spa Serenity, we like to stay fresh with our services and Enhancements, always keeping up with our industry’s trends. Our Massage therapists are always eager to learn new Modalities to add to our bag of tricks. With a high percentage of our massage clients being pain management clients, We wanted to focus on a modality that will help take those clients to the next level of pain relief. After our two day training with Jeffrey Montoya, the Chapter President at AMTA Wisconsin Chapter, we were very excited to bring you all Cupping.
Cupping improves the circulation of blood and lymph in a localized area. Common benefits of cupping include pain relief, and increase flexibility in stiff tendons and muscles. When applied to the muscle of a particular joint, it can help with Range of motion and entrapment of nerves, such as Thoracic outlet syndrome. A number of techniques can be performed with the cups to provide relief.
It is common for cupping to leave distinctive small, circular bruises on the areas where the cups were applied and it is usually painless. These cupping marks are discoloration of the skin due to broken blood vessels just beneath the skin, much like a bruise. It may look painful, but in most cases they are not. Not always will a client leave the service with the “bruising marks” as there are many different techniques the therapist can use with the cups that will leave marks. The massage therapist will have a conversation with the client to make sure they understand the bruising.
